Michael Jackson 1958-2009
Michael Jackson, the man behind 'Thriller', known as
the best selling album of all time died from cardiac
arrest Thursday (CNN has confirmed).
According to brother Randy Jackson, the 'King of Pop'
collapsed at his home in the Holmby Hills (Los Angeles),
California about noon Pacific time. He died at UCLA
Medical Center.
Rev. Al Sharpton said: "Michael Jackson made culture
accept a person of color." To say an 'icon' would only give
these young people in Harlem a fraction of what he was.
He was a historic figure that people will measure music and
the industry by."

The icon's story of rise and fall is among the most talked
about in the music industry. He was the frontman of
Jackson 5, the band created and formed in the 1960's with
his brothers under the watchful eyes of Joe, his father.
Michael was already doing solo by the late '70s and leading
the charts with songs like "Rock With You" and "Don't
Stop 'Til You Get Enough."

* August 29, 1958, Michael was born to Joe Jackson and wife
Katherine.
* 1964, at age 6, he joined Jackson 5.
* 1968, Jackson 5 was signed to Motown.
* 1969, his first television appearance.
* 1972, he made it to No. 1 as a solo artist with "Ben".
* 1978, he played scarecrow in the movie version of "The Wiz".
* 1979, he release the album "Off The Wall".
* In 1982, he made seven hit singles with the release of his
album "Thriller." The album became the best-selling album
of all time with more than 50 million copies sold.

* 1987, the album "Bad" was released, selling close to what
"Thriller" made.
* 1991, release of the album "Dangerous", debuted at the top
spot but unfortunately produced only one hit single "Black or
White."
* 1993, he entered an out-of-court settlement for his first
child-molestation charge.
* 1995, the greatest hits 2-CD "HIStory" was released but
did not sell much.
* 2001, release of "Invincible", the album did even worse.
* 2005, Michael was acquitted on charges of child-molestation.
* 2008, a series of the icon's concerts at London's 02 arena was
announced but were later postponed until 2010.
* 2009, Michael Jackson, 'The King of Pop' died of cardiac
arrest. He was 50.
He is survived by his children, Prince Michael I, Paris and
Prince Michael II.
