I've seen and heard of a lot of lotteries before, but this
one is different and yet very special since it's for the
Michael Jackson Public Memorial Service.
The Staples Center, the official venue of the service
cannot of course accommodate all of the fans who want
to be part of the occasion. There's an allotment of 17,500
free tickets for the 10:00 a.m. service on Tuesday and
more than 1.6 million registered for the chance
to get a piece.

Now that the registration is over
(which lasted until 6 p.m. Saturday online), AEG
is doing what they call thorough "scrubbing" of all the
entries to do away with any duplicates.
Winners of the lottery were randomly selected by a computer
and were notified last Sunday between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.
There will be two venues for the occasion, only 11,000 tickets
will be for the one inside the Staples Center and the rest will
be for the wide-screen viewing at the Nokia Theater.
Fans who were not able to avail of the tickets were advised
by the L.A. police and officials to stay at home. The outside screens
of the venues will not be used to broadcast the service.
Organizers would also like to stress that this is a memorial for
Michael Jackson and not a show.
